IS IT WORTH IT? The very first 2019 Chevy Corvette ZR1 with VIN 001 sold this past weekend at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Ariz. for $925,000. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from the auction go to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and its Building for America’s Bravest program.
“The Siller family started the foundation to honor the memory of their brother Stephen who lost his life on Sept. 11, 2011, as a New York City firefighter. The program builds smart homes for catastrophically injured service members returning home and first responders. Each home is custom designed to the needs of the individual while also being energy efficient, easily accessible, and automated.” ANTHONY ALANIZ, Associate Editor
The winning bid came from Rick Hendrick, chairman of Hendrick Automotive Group and owner of the Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR team.
“Chevrolet’s Corvette ZR1 is a bonkerballs flagship supercar like none the US has ever produced, with 755 supercharged horsepower and an easy-peasy 210 mile per hour top speed. It’s available with a big ole wing and awesome lightweight track-focussed wheels. If you like V8s and power and America, you’d be silly not to want one. This Corvette looks like a million bucks, or at least $925,000.” According to Kristen Lee – Jalopnik
So the question is “IS IT WORTH IT” and how long before Rick Hendrick will see a profit on this investment? It’s a great car in my opinion, but its new and time will tell on how many will be sold and how it will be received by the general public… I would still like to own it but can only afford to pay around $925 (remove all those zeros)!
Last year, Rockland, Maryland-based Genovation Cars announced the second generation of its electric sports car, the GXE – which stands for Genovation Extreme Electric. This week, the company announced the pre-production GXE will make a silent splash at next month’s Consumer Electronics Show
The second generation switches to the C7 Corvette Grand Sport, the new GXE’s two electric motors should get something like 800 hp and 700 pound-feet of torque. All of that power, mind you, goes to the carbon fiber wheels at the rear. On top of more powerful electric motors, Genovation upped the battery capacity from 44 kWh to 60 kWh and maintained 50/50 weight distribution. Range is said to be around 150 miles if you play Holly Golightly with the throttle pedal, or just enough for two UFO-sounding laps of the 12.9-mile Nürburgring. Genovation says the bolt to 60 mph happens in under three seconds – a traditional Grand Sport does it in 3.5 seconds – and top speed will be on the far side of 220 mph.
The coming GXE proves the adage that the best things in life are free, the second-best things in life are hideously expensive. Each of the 75 examples Genovation plans to build will cost $750,000. The limited run helps keep the price high, and buyers can opt for a feature not seen on any other electric car we know of: a seven-speed manual transmission. The company believes it won’t have any trouble finding buyers, and plans to use the haul of loot to finance a less expensive electric sports car called G2. Genovation has schedule GXE deliveries to begin at the end of 2019.
Steel Town Corvette Club has been asked to co-ordinate the “65 Years of Corvette” Exhibit at the 2018 “World of Wheels (WOW)” car show Jan.19-21 at the David Lawrence Convention Center. The WOW is featuring the Corvette this year.
If anyone would like to showcase your Corvette, especially C1’s through C5’s. All Generations are welcome to submit their information to Dave Oreski (412) 427-3375 [email protected] or Perry Minnis (412) 420-7290 [email protected] for consideration. Read on for more details on how to participate.
The Exhibit will be sponsored by Colussy Chevrolet, who is the sponsor of Steel Town Corvette Club. 2018 is also Colussy Chevrolet’s 100th anniversary as a dealership. If you would like to display your Corvette send Dave Oreski [email protected] your name, year, color and type of Corvette (jpg pics would be extremely helpful also), and your contact information – phone and email ASAP.
We need to collect all the information requested for your Corvette to be considered. A committee from Steel Town Corvette Club will review the Corvettes submitted and make selections for the Exhibit. We would like to have at least two Corvettes (coupe and convertible) from each generation, C-1 thru C-7, as well as anniversary, pace car, and special editions.
Additionally we would like to have uniquely customized/painted Corvettes, race/drag/competition Corvettes, and special interest or historic Corvettes.
There is a $50 registration fee that includes two weekend passes to the World of Wheels, a large metal display plaque, and judging of your Corvette for trophies and prizes. Please remember that the World of Wheels is in January and the weather might not be the best so you may want to make arrangements to have your Corvette brought to the Convention Center. Once we select your Corvette and layout the Exhibit, we expect you to be responsible for making sure you get your Corvette to the show. If you have any questions please contact Dave Oreski (412) 427-3375 [email protected] or Perry Minnis (412) 420-7290 [email protected].
